A ten-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a residence in Randburg this afternoon.
The cause of the incident and the series of events preceding it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information indicates that the boy had fallen into the frigid water. His father, who works at the residence, noticed his son was missing and found him floating in the water.
He pulled the boy from the pool and Netcare911 Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter.
Sadly the child had been immersed for a long period. He was declared dead at the scene.
One should never discount the value of knowing CPR. For more information on courses offered at the Netcare911 School of Emergency and Critical Care, click to http://secc.netcare.co.za.
In the event of a medical emergency, call 082 911.
