TABLE BAY Monday 11th June 2012. Fisherman casualty evacuated off fishing trawler:
Table Bay duty crew and METRO EMS were called out following a request for medical assistance from the local Long Line fishing trawler Shoal Fish for a 50 year old fisherman onboard suffering convulsions from unknown causes.
Paula Leech, NSRI Table Bay station commander said that the NSRI volunteer crew, accompanied by two EMS rescue paramedics, launched Spirit of Vodacom at 17h22 and responded to rendezvous with the trawler 6 nautical miles off Green Point.
An EMS ambulance was summoned to stand-by at our sea rescue base.
On arrival on-scene the EMS paramedics treated and stabilized the patient, who is from Khayelitsha. He was found to be suffering a Cerebrovascular Accident (stroke) and was transferred onto Spirit of Vodacom and brought to the Table Bay. He has been transported to hospital by an EMS ambulance in a serious but stable condition for further treatment.
