The SAWDOS welcome 50 new Facebook friends. We hope that you will find this page of interest and educational value. Please feel free to post your weather observations. You don't need to be a meteorologist or highly qualified person to be part of this group. All that is needed is a few minutes of your valuable time and the will to render a service to your community.
There is really no better way than real time weather observations by the public when it comes to reporting severe weather in an area, however do not assume that the SAWDOS knows for certain that severe weather has occurred. Finally help the SAWDOS to spread the word about severe weather, if at all possible before it occurs. One never know when your area will be effected by severe weather.
Every year people are killed or seriously injured by severe weather despite advanced warning. While some did hear the warning, others hear the warning and did not pay attention to it. We can change this by keeping our own communities informed via social - and other media and communications methods. We need to tell our friends about the SAWDOS. Invite your friends to join this group. We need more ground observers. We need more people that care for their community. South Africa need your observations and contributions.
Finally: Never assume that your weather observation report is not important. Your report can save lives.

The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.
