Woman seriously injured in Parys quad biking incident

A woman was seriously injured when she fell from a quad bike on a mountain trail on the outskirts of Parys in the Free State this afternoon.

The cause of the incident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain.

Common cause information suggests that the woman hit a section of rocks while riding on the trail and then was flung from the quad, striking the handle bars on her way forward.

Free State Paramedics managed to navigate t injured woman who was unable to move. Given the mountainous terrain, they called for the assistance of the Netcare1 Aeromedical Helicopter.

The helicopter landed in a clearing and the flight doctor and paramedic took over care of the injured woman.  She was airlifted to the Netcare Milpark Hospital in a stable condition.
