The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

5th July 2012 - The Coldest Day Of The Year For Port Elizabeth
According to Garth Sampson from the South African Weather Service, temperatures around Algoa country plummeted in the early hours of this morning, making it the coldest day of the year. Although, our friends in Jamestown and Elliot felt it the most.

Graaff Reinet, Somerset East &Aliwal North: -5C
Jamestown & Elliot: -6C

Cradock & Fort Beaufort: -1C
Storms River: 8C
Forecast for more cold weather moving in on Saturday with snow on high ground of the northern parts of The Eastern Cape.
