Evacuation ordered for River Club following heavy rains
The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has declared an evacuation order for the River Club in Observatory lying next to the Liesbeeck River as a result of the rising water level.
The rising levels of the Liesbeeck River jeopardised the safety of approximately 60 persons on the premises that has been evacuated to safety.
Residents are urged to stay clear and to leave the surrounding areas immediately for their own safety.
The City’s public safety authorities have been deployed to the area to regulate traffic and to ensure the safety of the crowds.
The rising levels of the water have flooded the courtyard with no significant damages to the buildings.
Fifteen vehicles have been removed from the flooded area.
