The police in the Seychelles are investigating the circumstances that led to the disappearance of British/South African yachtsman, Sean Terry.
Terry 48, disappeared en route to Madagascar in June this year.
Terry is an experienced yachtsman and skipper who was completing what was to be the final leg of his circumnavigation of the globe on his yacht Finnegan, most of which was done singlehanded.
At the time of his disappearance, Terry had planned to sail from Sri Lanka to Chagos and then on to Madagascar. He was accompanied by one crew member, an Austrian national with whom he had sailed before.
It has been confirmed by family members that Terry arrived safely in the Maldives on the 8th May, and departed on the 13th May headed for Chagos. Terry left Chagos on the 14th of June, together with an Italian owned yacht. The two vessels sailed in tandem and maintained radio communications until the 18th June, when they lost contact.
Finnegan arrived on the island of Coetivy off the coast of the Seychelles with only the crew member on board on 25th of June and Terry was reported missing, having been lost overboard some days previously. His family were notified of his disappearance on the 11th of July.
“We are extremely grateful for the excellent cooperation we have received from both the Seychelles police and the British High Commission,” a family spokesperson has said. “As this is an ongoing investigation we regret that we have no further information at this time. We must allow the police to complete their investigation and we must wait for their final reports.”
The family has urged anyone who may have had contact with Sean Terry during the past three months or may have any information, to notify them via their Facebook page.
