The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Weather Observation: Western / Southern Cape - Gale force wind and rain. (4 July 2012)
Observers in the Western and Southern Cape send the following weather observation reports to the SAWDOS:
00h58 - NOORDHOEK, CAPE TOWN: Was just woken by the rain and wind. Extreme gusts and rain in Noordhoek Area. Very large rain drops in between the rain. Almost thought it was hailing at a point. Weather coming from a NW direction. Seems like 5 minute intervals between the extreme gusts. Its sounds pretty bad out there! Obs. Jakes ZS1TP
05h07 - MOSSEL BAY: GALE force wind experienced in Mossel Bay. Max gust 51.4 kmh NNW . Light rain. - SAWDOS
06h05 - BARRYDALE: @SAWDOS1 The same WX at Barrydale! Obs. CorrieWorsley
06h06 - WILDERNESS: @SAWDOS1 strong wind now in Wilderness Obs. Willie Hough
06h16 - SEDGEFIELD: Extreme winds, Gale Force in Sedgefield. Obs. ???
06h30 - SOUTHERN CAPE: Gale force winds blowing in the Southern Cape since 05h00 this morning. No reports of wind damage as yet. - SAWDOS
07H09 - GEORGE: Parts of George without electricity. Still VERY windy... Welcome winter... Obs. Deidre Fortuin
07h20 - THE CRAGS, PLETTENBERG BAY: Wow what a cold wind up to 65kmph which is cold an wet all must keep safe. Plett and the crags is the windy place. Obs. Jacquin Pom Savage
08h00 - BLOUBERG, CAPE TOWN: The rain in the early hours was a true cloud-burst sort here in Blouberg. My lawn underwater, etc. Hectic! Obs. Les Gutsche
08H35 - OUDTSHOORN: In Oudtshoorn - no wind, but been raining for ages. So much for the first day of the Aerobatics Championships!
