The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Fire kills adult male in Lavender Hill
A fire occurred at 04:49 on Monday, 06 August 2012 at 954 VH, Hill View Heights Informal Settlement, St Edward Avenue, Lavender Hill that destroyed one shack.
The City’s firefighters and paramedics were called to the blaze an arrived at 05:04 at the incident.
One adult male that was living in the shack died that could not escape the blaze.
The South African Police Services did not release the name of the man that has died in the fire, saying the identity have not been confirmed yet.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the authorities.
An autopsy has yet to be scheduled.
