The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Fires kill 2 men in Cape Town
NYANGA: At 22:11 on Saturday, 11 August 2012 one (1) shack was destroyed by a fire in New Rest Informal Settlement, off Klipfontein Road, Nyanga. One adult male sustained fatal burn wounds and was declared deceased.
KHAYELITSHA: At 01:26 on Sunday, 12 August 2012 a fire occurred at 56261 Nqgawu Street, Khayelitsha. A backyard structure was destroyed by the fire. A 37 year old male was burnt beyond recognition.
The circumstances regarding these incidents are unconfirmed.
The identity of the victims has not been made known.
The SAPS has opened an inquest to investigate the incident.
