Hundreds of mourners expected at funeral of highly respected disaster management volunteer from Belhar


Hundreds of mourners are expected to gather for the funeral of The Late Colin “Bobby” Petersen (48 years) one of the most respected disaster management volunteers that passed away on Sunday, 05 August 2012.

Bobby Petersen served as a volunteer with the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre for 19 years and opened the Belhar volunteer unit in 1993 where he served voluntarily.

He was a teacher at many schools in Cape Town and before his demise he was a Grade 10 and 12 teacher at Bonteheuwel High School. He was in the employ of the Western Cape Education Department from 1996 years giving education for 16 years to pupils.

Bobby was highly respected in the community and served with pride providing various voluntary duties such as firefighting, first-aid, trauma counselling amongst other.

His fellow volunteer colleagues will form a Guard of Honour to pay tribute to the yeoman work he has performed and for the leadership role he played amongst the youth.

The management of the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre including staff members will attend the funeral service to express their condolences to the family of Bobby Petersen who passed away after a long illness.

The City has lost a selfless soul who dedicated his life to serve the Cape Town community with passion all hours of the day non-gratis.

Bobby Petersen is survived by his wife and 2 children.

The Disaster Risk Management Centre will honour his legacy by continuing to work hard with the communities to build a more Safe, Secure and a Caring City.

The funeral will take place as indicated below:
