The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

SAWDOS Request Weather Observation: 5 - 8 August 2012
The approaching cold front will once again afford photographers, weather observers, enthusiasts and others the opportunity to gather information about severe weather conditions. The SAWDOS hereby appeals to the general public and SAWDOS observers to forward any reports of such weather conditions to the SAWDOS. Use your cellphone, digital camera, email, private weather station etc. in gathering the information. This is great fun and also a useful service you can render to the community in your area.
Strong wind, high swells, heavy rain, very cold conditions, flash flooding and snow is forecast over parts of the country for the next days. Opportunity a-plenty for good photo's, measuring the highest and average wind speed, recording of damage to nature and infrastructure etc. The information will be used for further research and record purposes for that specific area.
Send information to:
SMS, MMS messages to: 076 251 3482 (only text messages)
Email photos and information by clicking HERE.
If you observe any strange weather or disaster send the info to the SAWDOS for publication.
Do not assume that the SAWDOS knows for certain that severe weather has occurred in your area. Never assume that your weather observation report is not important.
We also remind our readers that the SAWDOS utilize the following social media formats to keep our readers informed :
