The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Five year old sets his room alight
A little boy somehow found a lighter which he was playing with in his room and it is believed that he managed to set his bedspread alight.
Paramedics from Pietermaritzburg arrive at the private residence on Chamberlin street in Cato Ridge, to hear from the patients that the father had actually gone through the flames that had almost engulfed the room to rescue his five year old son.
The father had suffered burns to his face and arms but he had managed to get his child to safety. The mother, father and child were assessed by paramedics and were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
