Large earth tremor felt in parts of Gauteng last night (8 September 2012 22h10 SAST)

A large earth tremor was felt last night in many areas or Gauteng. The SAWDOS was alerted of the incident via it's SMS line at 00h17 and via an email message.

" Earth termor felt by myself at about 11h10 in Benoni, as well as Facebook friends in Kempton, Pamona and Bedford View area."

"Just had a tremor here... 3 to 5 seconds... loud rumble and tremor..." (Raine and Pierre Carosin, Germiston.)

Soon afterwards the SAWDIS Twitter account was flooded with reports:

It is not known at this stage whether this tremor was a mine related incident. The SAWDOS trust that the Council for Geoscience will release further info on the earth tremor. No reports of damage or injuries were received up to now.
