The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Man trapped in bakkie on Bester's bridge
Police and other rescue personnel saved a man trapped in a bakkie.
A rescue operation to rescue a farmer trapped in the middle of a bridge in the Bester's area was successful. The farmer was attempting to cross the river when his vehicle came to a halt and he was unable to go further.
Officers from the K9 unit and public safety managed to reach the farmer and bring him to safety.
