The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

One male injured and another dies in a fire
At 23:55 on Thursday, 20 September 2012 two (2) shacks were destroyed by a fire at 83 M. Kafi Street (NY61), Gugulethu.
The Fire & Rescue Services immediately dispatched vehicles to the scene of the incident.
At 23:58 a fire engine, rescue vehicle and water tanker arrived on the scene and rapidly extinguished the blaze.
One adult male sustained second degree burn wounds to the lower extremities and was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Another adult male sustained fatal burn wounds and was declared deceased. The identity of the deceased has not been made known.
The SAPS Crime Investigation Team was called out to the scene and arrived at 00:39.
An inquest docket has been opened to investigate the incident.
