The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

7 French citizens missing in Caribbean after hurricane
INTERNATIONAL NEWS - Up to seven French nationals were missing in the Caribbean between the French island of Martinique and island nation of Dominica after the deadly Hurricane Sandy barrelled through the area, the transport ministry said Monday.
A search has been launched with a customs plane mobilised to track down the French, who were on a boat and have been missing since Sunday, it said.
