The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Family of four homeless after fire in Mfuleni
At 14:54 on Wednesday, 17 October 2012 a fire occurred between B841 and B844, Burundi Informal Settlement, off Naledi Street, Mfuleni.
The City’s Fire & Rescue Services arrived within six (6) minutes at the scene at 15:00 and swiftly brought the blaze under control prevent it from spreading.
The fire wrecked one shack leaving a family of four homeless this afternoon.
The City’s disaster response were dispatched to the aid of the family which provided food parcels, blankets, clothing and building material.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and authorities will investigate the incidents.
