The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

where's the weakness, original engineering, maintenance, regular assessment? or is it simply a freak occurrence that nobody could have foreseen and catered for?
ReplyDeleteThe N2 section built in the 1980s up to the Grahamstown bypass, has had subsidence and rock-falling issues right from the start.
ReplyDeleteIf the road engineers are surprised at this engineering failure, I'll be very surprised.
More likely - I bet they're most surprised it hasn't happened sooner.
