Heavy rains over EC have driven temperatures to an all time low

The recent heavy rains over the Eastern Cape have driven day-time temperatures in Nelson Mandela Bay to a record low for the month of October.

The SA Weather Service says the average day-time temperature for the month was 19.2 degrees celsius, more than 1.5 degrees lower than the norm for October at 20.9 degrees.

Weather Office spokesperson, Garth Sampson, says the Year To Date average maximum temperature of 21.5 degrees , although not a record is more than half a degree below the norm of 23.1 and jointly third lowest on record.

He says the reason for this is simply, with more rain, there was more cloud cover.

Sampson says as of 31 October, Port Elizabeth's total rainfall was 992.4mm, just 75.7 mm short of the all time yearly record of 1068 mm measured in 1968.
