Fire breaks out in St Francis, residents evacuated

Johannesburg - Residents were being evacuated in St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out in the area, according to a report.

SABC radio reported that the blaze was spreading rapidly as strong south westerly winds were fanning it.
Many houses in the area had thatched roofs.

According to Eye Witness News, one house had already been gutted and four others damaged.

The town was filled to brim with holiday-makers who traditionally visit the area for Christmas holidays, according to a report.

Last month, 76 homes were destroyed by a blaze in the same area.
