Military aircraft missing on flight to Mthatha
A military aircraft has gone missing on a flight from Waterkloof air base in Pretoria to Mthatha.
The aircraft was reported missing in bad weather in the Drakensberg area this afternoon.
A source close to the search operation said this evening that eleven people were believed to be on board, but this figure could not be confirmed.
Algoa FM News understands that it is a C47TP – an upgraded DC-3 refitted with turbine engines. Details are still being awaited.
Military helicopters were dispatched to the area this afternoon, but the search was hampered by inclement weather. A ground search is also underway.
The aircraft closest to the camera, is the one that is missing. It often serves as the support aircraft for the SA Air Force aerobatic team, the Silver Falcons. Pic: Facebook
