The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Update: WATCH: Tropical Low Pressure System: Madagascar/Indian Ocean
SO. INDIAN OCEAN - System 94S is battling strong wind shear today and still has a low chance for development. Its located near 23.1S and 43.3E about 375 nautical miles southwest of Antananarivo, Madagascar. and back into the Mozambique Channel. Infrared imagery shows that the low level center is fully exposed to outside winds and the center is elongated (a sign of weakening) . The strongest thunderstorms have been pushed to the east from westerly wind shear. System 94S is moving northwestward. This Infrared image was taken today, Jan. 24, by the MODIS instrument that flies aboard NASA's Aqua satellite.
