The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Update: WATCH: Tropical Low Pressure System: Madagascar/Indian Ocean
SO INDIAN OCEAN - System 94S is still lingering in the Mozambique Channel. Showers and thunderstorms are still east of the exposed center of circulation- pushed there by strong vertical wind shear. The storm is also elongated, not a good sign for organizing. The center is located near 23.1S 43.3E, about 375 miles SW of Antananarivo, Madagascar. This has a low chance of development in the next 24 hours. This visible image from the MODIS instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite was taken today, Jan. 25 at 1038 UTC (5:38 a.m. EST) and shows the showers and clouds pushed east of the center.
