SEA RESCUE – YZERFONTEIN – Wednesday, 20th February, 2013. Kite surfer assisted


Rudi Rodgers, NSRI Yzerfontein station commander, said:

"On Wednesday, 20th February, at 17h10, NSRI Yzerfontein volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following reports of a kite-surfer in difficulty off-shore of Strandkombuis, 2 kilometers from Yzerfontein.

"Our NSRI Yzerfontein volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched our sea rescue craft SPIRIT OF IFFLEY and our NSRI rescue vehicle responded.

"On arrival on-scene we found an Australian kite-surfer, Benn Twyman, aged approximately in his early 30's, and now living in Bloubergstrand, had managed to reach the shore and he was walking along the beach towards Yzerfontein. His kite and board had been recovered.

"His friend had driven to near to the site to retrieve him.

"The kite-surfer was not injured and was brought to Yzerfontein where he required no further assistance."
