Current Southern Hemisphere Tropical Systems

THE AREA OF CONVECTION PREVIOUSLY LOCATED NEAR 11.6S 72.7E
IS NOW LOCATED NEAR 12.8S 74.8E, APPROXIMATELY 345 NM SOUTH-
SOUTHEAST OF DIEGO GARCIA. ANIMATED MULTISPECTRAL SATELLITE IMAGERY
DEPICTS A CONSOLIDATING LOW-LEVEL CIRCULATION CENTER (LLCC) WITH
IMPROVED DEEP CONVECTIVE BANDING WRAPPING INTO A WELL-DEFINED LLCC.
A 060101Z SSMIS 37 GHZ IMAGE SHOWS MULTIPLE CONVECTIVE BANDS OVER
THE NORTHERN AND EASTERN SEMI-CIRCLES OF THE LLCC. UPPER-LEVEL
ANALYSIS REVEALS A MARGINAL ENVIRONMENT WITH MODERATE (10 TO 20
KNOTS) VERTICAL WIND SHEAR AND DIFFLUENT WESTERLY FLOW. MAXIMUM
SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS ARE ESTIMATED AT 25 TO 30 KNOTS. MINIMUM SEA
LEVEL PRESSURE IS ESTIMATED TO BE NEAR 1002 MB. THE POTENTIAL FOR
THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL CYCLONE WITHIN THE NEXT 24
HOURS IS UPGRADED TO MEDIUM.
