Mpumalanga police said three children have drowned while crossing a river in the province.
The girls, between the ages of five and seven, were trying to cross a fast flowing river in Balfour following heavy rains in the province.
The girls experienced difficulty and by the time help arrived they had disappeared into the water.
Their bodies were retrieved by police divers on Thursday.
Police's Leonard Hlathi said a total of ten people have drowned in the province in the last two weeks.
“We had another two girls who drowned in Lydenberg. We are issuing a warning to all parents to accompany children who cross rivers.”
