A 20-year-old man is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after his hand was caught in a meat mincer at a butchery in Stanger on the North Coast.
Reports says the man was mincing meat yesterday when his hand got trapped in the machine.
Netcare911's Chris Botha says paramedics were called to the scene and tried to remove the limb from the metal but found it would be too dangerous without a full medical team and specialised equipment.
"He is still lying in intensive care and doctors are working to try and save the hand," said Botha.
