DELMAS – 13 January 2011 at 1500
A 26 year old farm worker had to be rescued from underneath a tractor this afternoon in Delmas after it tipped over and landed into the side of a dam.
Paramedics from ER24 that arrived on the scene found the man with his right arm pinned under the body of the tractor. The local fire department were called to the scene to lift the tractor in order for paramedics to properly assess the man.
Once he was freed it was found that he sustained a fracture to his arm and possible chest injuries. The man was transported to hospital in a stable condition.
Paramedics explained that he was very lucky as the whole tractor could have tipped onto him and pushed him under the water where he would surely have drowned.
It is not clear what caused the tractor to tip over.
