The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Imagine a World without free Weather Information
English Wikipedia joined thousands of other web sites in protesting SOPA and PIPA by blacking out its content for 24 hours. The purpose of the blackout was twofold: to raise public awareness, and to encourage people to share their views with their elected representatives.
The above image set me thinking. (Always a bad idea) The following came to mind:
Imagine a World without free Weather Information!!
I am sure I do not have to explain any further. In South Africa the public must pay for lifesaving weather information. Thankfully there are many private weather web-sites that provide free weather information, but for how long will they be able to provide the service? The SA Weather Service Amendment Bill is threatening the existence of private weather web-sites. Can it get any worse?........you bet!!
- Thanks Jakes, for the email.
