The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Update: Request Weather Observation: Possible heavy rain for Monday and Tuesday (16 - 17 January 2012) along the North Eastern Parts of South Africa
Images: U.S. National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) (Click on images for larger view.)
From this mornings's satellite image it is quite noticeable that the low pressure has developed further in intensity. It would appear that this system will move further westwards. Heavy rain is expected over northern parts of Kwazulu Natal and Mozambique on Monday and Tuesday. It is excepted that the heavy rain forecasted for Monday over the lowveld and escarpment will not materialize, however there is still a possibility of rain for Tuesday through to Wednesday. It is still to early to indicate whether heavy rain will fall in this areas.
The SAWDOS is keeping and eye on the system and will inform our readers of any further developments. Please report any heavy rain possible flooding, gale force winds, rough seas and wave heights to the SAWDOS in the event that this system develop over the next two days.
