The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Update: Tropical Cyclone 08S (Funso) South Indian Ocean( Mozambique Channel)

201800Z-211800ZJAN2012 AT 200600Z, TROPICAL CYCLONE 08S (FUNSO) WAS LOCATED NEAR 18.4S 38.6E, APPROXIMATELY 655 NM NORTHEAST OF MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE, AND HAD TRACKED WESTWARD AT 07 KNOTS OVER THE PAST 06 HOURS. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS WERE ESTIMATED AT 75 KNOTS GUSTING TO 90 KNOTS.
