The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Web-Cam: See the Aurora Borealis (northern lights)
Image: Thilo Bubek took this picture from Tromsø, Norway (Click on image for larger view.)
To see the Aurora Borealis (northern lights) is to see the meeting between space and Earth. We know today that it's formed where we see it, of particles from the sun colliding with the outer parts of the atmosphere. You can see spectacular eruptions and later in the night, calm pulsating aurora. You can now view the northern lights via a live camera at the Aurora Sky Station by clicking HERE.
