Cape Town - The body of a man was recovered from the sea off Kommetjie beach after he went missing on Saturday afternoon, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.
"He was found by NSRI volunteers floating semi-submerged under water near to where he had been reported to have gone missing," NSRI Kommetjie station commander Tom Coetzee said.
Christopher Robinson, 29, from Ocean View, was swimming with his 8-year-old son at 11:30 on Saturday when he got into difficulty.
Coetzee said the boy had managed to get back to shore. He and other bystanders claimed they had been trying to raise the alarm since the morning.
"The sea rescue crew was activated at 15:43... It is not clear how they were trying to do this [raise the alarm] but the police are investigating the sequence of events."
The police took the boy home to fetch his mother and other family members, said Coetzee.
"The family are receiving trauma counselling. Police have opened an inquest docket," he said.
