The cooler weather, coupled with some light drizzle in the Overberg region, is finally helping to extinguish the fire burning in Stanford.
The vegetation fire near Hermanus has been burning for the past four days.
Overstrand Fire Chief Riaan Jacobs said it is now burning largely on the upper slopes of the surrounding mountains.
“The weather is a bit cold with a light drizzle and the low cloud, so it helps with our operations. At this stage, most of our fires have been extinguished."
At the same time, the misty weather is hampering fire-fighting efforts in the Bainskloof area between Wellington and Ceres.
Cape Winelands Municipality's Roysten Harris said they still need to extinguish the blaze which broke out over the weekend.
“The overcast weather prohibits us from seeing where the hot-spots are. As soon as it clear we’ll take the helicopter to inspect the fire."
