Durban - A man has died after an American ppitbull terrier attacked him on Knight road in Sherwood, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.
"Allan Lanton's left arm was seriously mauled and he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday," Colonel Jay Naicker said.
Lanton, 60, was attacked on his property.
Police were called in when the dog's owner and a neighbour failed to calm down the animal.
A police officer fired off shots to scare the animal, but this also had no effect.
"The officer was forced to shoot and kill the dog," Naicker said.
