The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Storm Damage: Louwsburg, Northern Kwazulu Natal (22 February 2012)
VIA SAfmnews: Heavy rain and strong winds have damaged several houses at Louwsburg in the Abaqulusi municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
In response to the above the SAWDOS received the following email from Vali and I quote:
"Why did your organization not mention anything about the storms in Northern Kwazulu - Natal last night?
You claim to provide info to communities.....
SAWDOS comment: "Vali thanks for your email. The SAWDOS uses Twitter as an early warning system and real time storm observation medium to keep the public informed. The following tweet was posted last night via Twitter:
"SAWDOS1 RTSO - Intense thunderstorms active in Northern Kwazulu Natal and North Eastern Cape. - SAWDOS
13 hours ago · reply · retweet · favourite".
The SAWDOS do not have a real time observer in Louwsberg or surrounding areas. Maybe it is time that people that enjoy complaining, do something for their communities instead. I am sure that if more observers send in reports to the SAWDOS we can provide more detailed information to the public. If you live in Louwsburg, why not become a weather observer and help to keep your community informed. You are most welcome to assist the SAWDOS in this regard.
Once again the SAWDOS is just as good as the info, photos, data being send to the SAWDOS for publication.
The following quote says it all:
"The SAWDOS a service by the public for the public!!"
