CAPE TOWN – At midnight today, Thursday 02 February 2012, a fire destroyed approximately 20 shacks and 2 formal dwellings at the Joe Slovo near Milnerton.
The fire has resulted in the displacement of 60 people and the City’s disaster response teams will be at hand this morning to assist the victims with food, blankets, clothing and building material.
No persons sustained injuries or died in the fire.
According to the preliminary reports it appears that the fire was caused in a dwelling where a petrol canister was found.
The suspected cause of fire is arson and the SAPS have opened an inquest docket into the matter.
