Visitors stuck on Table Mountain

More than 250 visitors were stuck on Table Mountain last night after the cable car broke down. All of them, including about 60 staff members were however brought to safety before midnight.

For visitors from Poland, their visit to Table Mountain was a night to remember. They say it is beautiful at night and that they like the city very much.

The visitors were given temporary shelter, food and drinks at the restaurant on top of mountain while the problem was fixed.

" So the fault was fixed at seven so people were waiting for about an hour before it worked. We've had to take people down very slowly so usually the cable way takes five minutes to get to the bottom of the station, this time it took about 20 minutes. So we could only take three an hour. Obviously we do double and triple checks and safety comes first," explained CEO of Table Mountain Cable Way, Sabine Lehmann.

Great appreciation was expressed for the way the situation was handled. One of the visitors from London, Barbara, says the staff was amazing, brilliant and they put on food for everybody, adding that it was fun.
