[VEREENIGING – 07 MARCH 2012 AT 17H00]
A man believed to be in his early forties was killed in a freak accident, when he was struck by lightning while walking on the Langerhand Road in the Sonlandpark near to Vereeniging this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics were called to the scene by the local police who found the man lying in the road. They assessed him and found that he had an entry wound to the right side of his head and burn patterns down his body and a exit wound to the left side of his ankle. The patient had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.
It is believed that there was an electrical storm in the area about 30min before the incident occurred.
