A man is fighting for his life in a private hospital in Roodepoort after an industrial accident in which both his arms were amputated this morning.
The cause of the incident and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear.
Common cause information indicates that the man had been working in a factory and had become entangled in the moving parts of a machine that makes bubblegum.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man in a critical condition, having sustained traumatic amputations of both his arms. He was rapidly treated at the scene and rushed by ambulance to the nearby hospital.
