The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Tropical storm Irina has wreaked havoc in KZN, bringing heavy rain and gale force winds.
The SA Weather Service says the rain should ease off today, although there will still be rough sea conditions along the KZN coast up to Maputo in Mozambique.
As of this morning, the Durban area has seen around 161mm of rain since Saturday, while Richards Bay has seen 186.4mm over the same period.
Charter's Creek in northern KZN meanwhile recorded 245.8mm of rain from Saturday to Sunday.
