Johannesburg – 'n Hewige tropiese storm het die noordkus van Wes-Australië getref.
Sikloon Lua, wat na 'n kategorie vier storm opgegradeer is, het die ylbevolkte Pilbara-streek getref en is besig om na die binneland te beweeg, het RSG berig.
Winde van tot 250 km/h woed en die weerkantoor sê dit gaan met hewige reën gepaard.
Die klein dorpies Parboo en Wallal sal waarskynlik die swaarste getref word.
Die radiostasie berig die Pilbara-streek is 'n belangrike myngebied waar onder andere die mynreus Rio Tinto ystererts produseer.
Kommersiële vlugte na die gebied is gekanselleer en die hoof-snelweg en die hawe, Port Hedland, is gesluit.
