The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

ST FRANCIS: Ill fisherman casualty evacuated
At 18h53 on Sunday 04th March the St Francis Bay duty crew were called out to assist a 48 year old Humansdorp fisherman on the Chokka fishing boat Vukane I suffering from an epileptic seizure, 1.8 nautical miles off-shore of St Francis Bay harbour.
The crew launched Spirit of St Francis II, accompanied by a 24/7 paramedic, and on arrival the fisherman was stabilized, transferred onto the sea rescue boat and brought to the NSRI St Francis Bay Sea Rescue base. He has been transported to hospital in a stable condition.
