The 10 year old girl was allegedly found floating in a warm water swimming pool by lifeguards at a resort in Kroonstad. It is not known what had taken place, or as to how long the child had already been in the water.
Lifeguards are believed to have pulled her out of the water and she was not breathing and had no pulse. They started CPR and called in the paramedics. ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene and took over CPR from the lifeguards. They then continued to try and revive the girl while loading her into the ambulance to get her to hospital. They took her to the Boitumelo Hospital, where CPR efforts continued.
It is at this stage not clear whether casualty staff were able to revive the little girl, or whether she later succumbed to the trauma of the drowning.
