A man was seriously injured when he fell nearly six meters in a boiler room at the Universitas Academic Hospital in Bloemfontein this morning.
The cause of the incident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain.
Common cause information suggests that the man, a member of the hospital’s maintenance team, had been walking on a corrugated iron roof of the boiler room when a trap door gave way beneath him. The man plunged six meters through the access door and landed on the concrete floor below.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man in a serious condition, having sustained possible spinal injuries as well as lacerations and abrasions from the fall. The initiated care and managed the man’s pain and transported him by ambulance to a private hospital nearby.
