A six-year-old boy drowned in a public swimming pool in Springfield Park, Durban, on Saturday afternoon, paramedics said.
“Reports from the scene indicate that lifeguards found the child at the bottom of the pool, it is still not certain how long the boy was submerged under water,” said Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha.
Lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the child.
Paramedics then performed advanced life support resuscitation for almost an hour but the boy was declared dead on the scene, said Botha.
