ER24 slams prank calls

Paramedic company, ER24, on Friday said it would not tolerate prank calls to its national emergency contact centre.

It said in recent months, paramedics responded to nearly 700 false alarms.

ER24's Werner Vermaak said most of these incidents coincide with school and public holidays.

“Prank calls are clocking emergency lines and placing people’s lives in danger.”

Meanwhile, in March, the Western Cape 10111 call centre said it was inundated with what they called “nuisance calls.”

In the past few months they received 700,000 "nuisance complaints".

According to officials, the Maitland call centre receives prank calls on a daily basis.
