Update: 11h08 SAST The building has been evacuated, nearly one thousand people were evacuated. Eight people, five in a serious condition, were treated at the scene.
They were moved to a medical station away from the building.
The injured displayed symptoms of respiratory distress. The gas is believed to have circulated through the building in the ventilation system.
11h04 SAST: Netcare911Paramedics have responded to a mass casualty incident believed to have been caused by a gas leak at a building in the Randburg CBD.
An emergency call was placed to 082 911 and medics rushed to the scene.
Initial reports indicate that nearly 800 people have affected by the gas leak.
Netcare911 Paramedics, Firefighters and Hazmat teams are at the scene. Updates will follow.
