A man was killed when his car was struck by a goods train at a level crossing Ferreira outside Bloemfontein in the Free State.
The cause of the incident and the series of events leading up to it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information suggests that the vehicle had been crossing the railway line when it was struck by the freight train. The vehicle was pushed approximately thirty meters from the initial point of impact before coming to rest at the trackside.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the man had sustained critical injuries and had sadly died as a result.
